Today was one of THOSE mornings! As I was preparing to channel my inner Donna Reed and make some blueberry muffins (with REAL blueberries, people!), I stumbled on the way to the recycling bin - in my non-caffeinated state - and dropped a glass bottle, which promptly shattered everywhere! Once that was finally cleaned up, we were back on track for the muffin making when I pulled out the egg container to find... we had only one of the two required eggs because no one mentioned that they had used all but one of the eggs... Mark!
So as I sent Eamon to get dressed so we could go to the store to get our one egg, I decided to have what was left of the yogurt, which was only 6 weeks past it's sell by date. (It was fine - really!) Somehow the quart container slipped from my non-buttery fingers and hit the floor, splattering yogurt everywhere. Well, at least it was a step up from the glass that had been sprayed everywhere just fifteen minutes earlier. :P I weighed whether or not I should let the dogs in to "clean" up the mess or if that would just cause more of a mess since they'd been outside in the rain and mud. Darn it! I decided I was going to have to go this cleaning job alone - again! Finally all errant glass and yogurt had been removed from the kitchen floor (and cabinets) and Eamon and I were on our way to Publix. The following conversation ensued in the egg and dairy section:
Eamon: "Ooh! Ooh! I want to hold the eggs!"
Me: "No, sweetie. There have been enough things dropped and broken this morning so I'm going to hang on to the eggs."
Eamon: "But you're the one that kept dropping and breaking things!"
Me: "Well, um, yes... Ok, you have a point there but... I'm all better now. I promise I won't drop the eggs."
Eamon: *sigh* "No fair..."
Luckily, I was able to hang on to the eggs! ;)
Anyone who's ever been around a 6 (now 12!) year old knows they say they craziest things. After months of being harangued, I've finally decided to start documenting the crazy things my kid says. It's either that or actually do my homework. So enjoy!

~Omnivorous Conversations~
While eating lunch today...
Eamon: "My friend Nathaniel ate soup yesterday that had fake chicken in it!"
Me: "Really? What kind of fake chicken?"
Eamon: "I don't know but his mom and him are vegetarians so he doesn't eat real chicken."
Me: "Ahh, I see. What about his dad?"
Eamon: "I don't know. I think he's an omnivore."
Me: <chuckling at the use of 'omnivore'>
Eamon: "What? He IS an omnivore!"
Me: "I know. I was just laughing about you knowing that word."
Eamon: <exasperated> "I've known it since I was three, Mommy."

~Cat-in-the-Hat Conversations~
This is a bit of a cheat post b/c it was written not spoken but it's so worth it! ;)
2nd Grade Writing Prompt in Celebration of Dr. Seuss' Birthday:
If the Cat in the Hat came to my house...
Eamon: "I'd dress him up in a clown suit and throw a cake, pie at his face. Then I'd do the same thing whith thing 1 and 2. And then my dogs whold chase him. I'd churn the water to very hot when he takes a shower. Then I'd have popcorn."
So, I always knew my kids would be slightly warped but I didn't think it would be so obvious so soon! ;) I hope this doesn't earn me a call from the school psychologist b/c I can't help but agree w/ him - I've always hated the Cat in the Hat books! ;)

~School Conversations~
<I'm a little late on this one from last week!>
While asking about Eamon's day at school...
Me: "Just tell me one cool thing that happened. Or one bad thing. Or one anything!"
Eamon: "I can't remember anything."
Me: "Ok, what did you have for lunch?
Eamon: "Sandwich, pretzels, peppers, yogurt, and juice box!"
Me: "Of course you would remember that... which you have every day! Ok, what did you best friend have for lunch?!" <thinking I'd gotten him>
Eamon: "Cheese sandwich, chocolate milk, and chips."
Me: "Seriously, dude? That's what's on your mind all day?"
Eamon: "I get hungry."
If he's like this at 7, I can't even imagine our grocery bill when he's 17...

~All I Know Conversations~
After coming home from his first Tae Kwon Do lesson tonight...
Eamon: "Well, I know one thing."
Me: "What's that?"
Eamon: "How to turn on the TV with my toes!" <demonstrates>
Me: "Awesome. Money well spent..."

~Drum Roll Please Conversations~
As Eamon started playing his drums at 8am this morning...
Me: "Eamon, stop that! You'll wake up Rowan."
Eamon: "She's probably already awake and reading."
Me: "No, she's not."
Eamon: "Yeah, most of the time that she's awake, she is reading."
Me: <sigh> "That's not the point. You can't play the drums b/c she's still sleeping."
Eamon: "I'll just go check if she is or not..."
Me: "No!"

~Desserted Conversations~
As he was trying to choke down the rest of his yummy & nutritious lunch today...
Eamon: "Can we have ice cream for dessert?"
Me: "No, we'll have that for dessert after dinner tonight. Instead, we'll have... cantaloupe!"
Eamon: "Booo..."
Me: "You know, studies show that 9 out of 10 children who 'boo' their mother never get to eat ice cream again."
Eamon: "Wha...?! Hey, you're making that up! Right?"
Maybe I am, maybe I'm not.... ;)
